MetroCon

June 24, 2009 |

So, I had a great time this past weekend. I went to MetroCon, in Tampa, Florida. It is considered the larget anime convention in Florida. I guess. Not as big as MegaCon, but MegaCon isn't all anime. Heh. Anyways, let's start with day one.

Day 1
Start off pretty good, sorta. Woke up at about 7 to leave my house at 8, to make it over to my friends place in the Tampa area by 9:30. Sadly, I traffic got worse as I got closer and didn't make it to her place 'til about 10. When we finally left her house (after dressing in my cosplay), we found that we had to wait in line in order to get our passes, even though we had brought our tickets in advance. Along the way, we were both bombarded with people wanting to take pictures of us. XD I loved it!

After getting our tickets, it was about lunch time (ya, we waited in line for about 2 hours). So, we decided to crack down and buy some food at the convention (the closes place to eat was aout 5 blocks down). It wasn't half bad, surprisingly. After that we roamed around the place, checking out the dealers room, and artist alley. Along the way, more and more people wanting to take our pictures. ^~^

Next thing we know, it is about 5 o'clock. We needed to get ready for the Masquerade at 7, but we wanted to take a few photos before we went to get our outfits. The location of the convention was on a nice little water front. You can view the photos taken here. ^^

The Masquerade was awesome! This is like no other Masquerade. While there is dancing involved, there is also a story! I was very impressed, because before hand I was a little worried that I would be bored from just dancing. The downside, I felt like I was at a Catholic Church. Down - watch story - Up - dance - Down - watch story - Up - dance - etc. XD But fun!!

Day 2
This was our less eventful day. Since we didn't get home til about 12 ish - 1, our actions were a little slow the next morning. We wanted to be at the Con before 10, but we did not make it til about 10:45. The reason being why we wanted to be there early was to watch the Human Chess Match that was happening at 12, and we did not feel like watching it from the back of the room (especially when the kept having technical problems). We went to check out some panels, but left out of boredom. More pictures of us (*squee*). Roamed the dealers room a little more. Eventually we decided to head back to her house and chill. Thankgoodness she only lived about 20 minutes way from the con. xD

After having dinner, we left for the con, again, to watch a concert. We waited in line for about 30 minutes past the time it was suppose to start. We were told that the delay was because they were still having technial problems. So, we left the line to watch another show that we were more interested in anyways. The show's called "Calcifer's Fire Tournament." Being the pyro that I am, I enjoyed this show VERY much. Sadly, I didn't get pictures. T^T But there were a lot of hot guys playing with fire. Oh... *faints*

Day 3
This day was the best day, in my opinion. Things started a lot better than the past two days. We were on time for waking up, and getting to the the con early. We were so early, that the dealers room wasn't open just yet. As we were waiting for the doors to open, some guy came up to me, from the Best Buy booth, asking me to come by the booth, so that he can take a picture of my outfit. ^__^ I'm so happy that many people liked my outfit (I like it too).

After making a few purchases in the dealers room (and getting my picture taken by the Best Buy guy), my friend and I were still early, that we were able to get to the front of the line to see the Human Chest Match. If there is something that I commemorate MetoCon for, is the shows that they put on. Sad that some of the cute characters that I liked had to die though (of course only for show). T^T Fate... *cries* Gene... Marth... nuuuu... Got some pretty cool videos.

Right after the show, I decided to do something daring. ^__^ Since my cosplay was Pocky, I decided to purchase some pocky and hand them out to people. I had one bag left and decided to not pass it, but to toss it. xD I went to the balcony, and yelled, "I HAVE ONE BAG OF POCKY LEFT! WHO WANTS IT!?" Once a crowd gathered, I tossed it. It was so freaking funny. XD The best part was, just as my friend and I were about to leave, some guy came up, and asked, "Who's throwing stuff off the balcony." My friend and I instantly split the scene of the "crime." OMG! My heart was pounding so badly, but it was fun! w00t! I normally don't do stuff like that, but it was awesome!

Shortly after, I did the limbo with the Organization 13. XD Then a little girl came up to me, wanting to "Meet Pocky." She was so adorable. I am a celeborty. XD Tehe.

Anyways, we still had time before the closing ceramonies, we decided to head back into the dealers room. We ended up passing by the Best Buy booth, and the same guy came up to me, asking for another picture. This time, it was a picture with the starter box for "Negima." He asked me if liked the showed, and I said, "Of course." Next thing I know, he is telling me that I could keep the product! OMG! I just got something for free! Isn't this an awesome day or what?

After that, we got bored, and still had about an hour before the closing ceramonies were about to start, we decided to watch their AMV contest show. On our way to the show, we ran into 5 super hot asian guys who wanted a picture of me! Oh my god, I was about to die. I really wish I had given my friend my camera so that she could've taken a picture of the moment, but... *sigh* Oh well. THEY WERE FREAKING HOT!! *faint*

End

Sadly, the day ended, and so ended the MetroCon weekend. I would definately go back, but I'm not sure if I would go for three days. I would absolutely go to see the shows, and go to the Masquerade. Those I most definately had fun with. Overall, it was a great weekend.

Book Review - Sarah Douglass

June 14, 2009 |

I would like to first off say thank you all who have commented, and left their advice for me about my previous post. They mean so much to me.

I want to take this chance to talk about the series that I just finished a few days ago. In the USA it is called "The Wayfarer Redemtion;" a two part trilogy series. The first part (orginially called "The Axis Trilogy") follows Axis, on his quest to bring the world of Tencendor back to the way things were: before the rise of the Seneschal, and the damnation of two (of three) races. Along the way, Axis must fight both of his half brothers: Bornheld (the threat against the damned races), and Gorgreal (the threat against Tencendor). The three books are called:

"Sarah Douglass has the breadth of vision necessary to create sweeping epics and the story teller's gift that makes readers love her."
-Locus

SPOILER: The second part follows on forty years after the conclusion of the first trilogy. It tells the story of Axis, Azhure and Faraday's children, and the terror that confronts them through the Star Gate. Throughout all three books, there is bleakness and joy, as well as love and death. The three books are called:

"Storytelling at its best, with fast-aced action, gritty realism, powerful characters, magic, and romance."
-Library Journal

My impression of Sarah Douglass' works, leaves me speechless. Each page, each chapter, each book, left me beggings for more to read. I just could not put the books down. Her creativity, vivid storytelling, and her characters are what draws me in, as well as the world that she has created.

If you are looking for a book to read, that has love, and war, set in a completely different world, with many different races, then I reccomend this series. Don't worry, I found that this series does not stop at the sixth book (to my happy relief); "DarkGlass Mountain." Keep an eye out for more information about her next series, as I get ready to my purchase, and continue my adventures with the next.
